Saudia Group showcases first Lilium eVTOL aircraft at Global Logistics Forum

Saudia Group has unveiled its first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from Lilium, currently on display at the Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh.

This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to integrating advanced technology and sustainable travel solutions, aimed at enhancing the experience for both residents and visitors throughout Saudi Arabia.

In line with its expansion plans, Saudia Group signed a binding sales agreement in July for 50 Lilium Jets, with an option for an additional 50.

Future of mobility

These eVTOL aircraft are set to transform regional connectivity by providing efficient first- and last-leg links into Saudia Group’s regional hubs.

Moreover, they will introduce new point-to-point routes—such as Jeddah to Makkah—that could reduce travel times by up to 90%.

Furthermore, the Lilium Jets will play a pivotal role in Saudi Arabia’s tourism and pilgrimage sectors, facilitating faster access for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and improving transport to major sports and entertainment events in Riyadh.

Additionally, Saudia Group envisions the aircraft unlocking new opportunities for travel to remote and emerging tourist destinations, thereby boosting the Kingdom’s appeal as a global tourism destination.

The first aircraft is expected to be delivered in 2026, with operations managed and run by Saudia Private, a subsidiary of Saudia Group.

Saudi Arabia has recognised the substantial growth potential of eVTOL technology and is taking decisive steps to integrate this new mode of transport into its existing airspace and traffic infrastructure by 2026, as outlined in its Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Roadmap.

Lilium has collaborated closely with the Saudi Arabian General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) over recent years, contributing to the development of a regulatory framework essential for the safe operation of eVTOL aircraft in the Kingdom.

Additionally, GACA has formalised this partnership by signing an agreement with Lilium to establish and implement the necessary regulations for eVTOL operations in Saudi Arabia.
