Joby Aviation, Jetex partner to advance sustainable air travel in the Middle East
US-based electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturer, Joby Aviation, has recently partnered with Jetex, an executive aviation services provider, to transform connectivity and sustainability in air travel.
The collaboration aims to integrate Joby’s advanced electric air taxi services with Jetex’s premier aviation infrastructure.
Initially, the alliance will focus on Jetex locations in the region, where Joby plans to deploy its Global Electric Aviation Charging Systems (GEACS) to support its operations.
This will connect Jetex passengers to an expanding network of vertiports, enabling efficient and sustainable travel between key destinations, including inter-emirate services within the UAE.
Sustainability at the forefront
“At Jetex, sustainability is a key focus of our strategy, and our partnership with Joby represents an important step forward in achieving our vision of greener skies,” said Adel Mardini, Founder & CEO of Jetex.
“We are committed to driving innovation that reduces our industry’s environmental impact, and integrating Joby’s air taxis into our network allows us to deliver cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable travel experiences, starting in the UAE.”
Jetex’s terminals, including those at Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) and Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Executive Airport, are strategically positioned to provide access to key financial, tourist, and entertainment hubs.
JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby, remarked, “Jetex’s exceptional operational standards and commitment to sustainability make them an ideal partner as we work to redefine urban air mobility.”
Moreover, Bervit highlighted, “With their strategically positioned terminals and focus on delivering unparalleled customer experiences, this collaboration is a significant milestone in advancing sustainable air travel in the region.”
Expanding urban air mobility in the UAE
Furthermore, earlier this year, Joby signed a definitive agreement with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), securing exclusive rights to operate air taxis in the city for a period of six years.
The first vertiport in Joby’s Dubai air taxi network, situated at Dubai International Airport (DXB), is already under construction.
In addition, Joby has signed a multilateral agreement in Abu Dhabi with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), the Department of Economic Development (DED), and the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi).
This collaboration sets the stage for establishing scalable air taxi services in the Emirate and unlocking potential inter-emirate routes.
Moreover, at the inaugural Advanced Air Mobility Symposium, organised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada, in September, Joby presented a letter of intent (LoI) to the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to initiate the process for its air operator certification in the country.
