New AAM Consortium ‘SALAAM’ launched to advance global air mobility infrastructure
A new advanced air mobility (AAM) consortium, Sky Alliance of Automated Air Mobility (SALAAM), has been launched in Austria to provide global support for cities, regions, and nations looking to develop AAM infrastructure.
The consortium brings together industry players, including FlyNow, Kookiejar, and VjaitraAir Mobility, to streamline the process of integrating AAM ecosystems into urban and regional transportation networks.
According to the consortium’s website, the purpose of this approach is to “relieve the entity (city, region, and nation) wishing to introduce AAM from having to identify compatible elements of the overall ecosystem and having to oversee the adoption of a common operations concept and define the interfaces between the individual suppliers’ offerings.”
Furthermore, the initiative aims to deliver a cohesive approach by ensuring participating companies handle integration efforts, reducing the complexity for cities and regions introducing AAM solutions.
Ratandeep Tripathi, Founder and CEO of Vjaitra Air Mobility, noted, “As a collaborative alliance, SALAAM is focused on developing the critical infrastructure and frameworks required for seamless air taxi operations, including: establishing waypoints for take-off, landing, and mid-route navigation; designing safe and efficient flying routes for urban and intercity air travel; enabling regulatory and technological support for smooth integration into existing transportation systems.”
He added, “Globally, it fosters international collaboration for cutting-edge innovation and establishment of standardised frameworks for automated air mobility.”
Moreover, SALAAM’s launch marks a significant step towards advancing the AAM sector by fostering collaboration and addressing critical infrastructure needs.
