Skyway, MatrixSpace partner to enhance air traffic management and drone detection

California-based vertiport development and operations company, Skyway, has partnered with MatrixSpace, an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled sensing platform provider, to enhance air traffic management and unmanned aircraft detection.

The collaboration aims to improve safety, efficiency, and scalability within the advanced air mobility (AAM) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) sectors.

Skyway specialises in providing critical services for airline operators, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) manufacturers, and commercial developers, including airspace and airfield management for vertiports.

Through this partnership, the company will integrate MatrixSpace Radar’s AI-powered sensing technology to improve situational awareness across its deployments.

MatrixSpace’s radar systems offer real-time detection, classification, and visualisation of both airborne and ground-based objects.

These capabilities will strengthen Skyway’s command centre operations, enabling faster and more efficient responses to air traffic issues.

“Our partnership with MatrixSpace is a game-changer for vertiport operations, bringing an advanced level of detection no one else could provide,” said Clifford Cruz, CEO of Skyway.

“Integrating their intelligent radar technology with our vertiport infrastructure will ensure safer, more reliable, and scalable operations for AAM, addressing critical needs in the aerospace and urban air mobility industries.”

Strategic partnership

With urban air mobility gaining momentum, effective air traffic management solutions are essential.

MatrixSpace’s advanced radar systems offer object detection, telemetry capture, and mesh network synchronisation, allowing Skyway to oversee vertiports with greater precision.

These capabilities support beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, a crucial element in enabling efficient eVTOL flights and drone deployments for commercial, public safety, and defence applications.

“This partnership is pivotal for accelerating innovations in aerospace navigation and ensuring seamless integration across the AAM ecosystem,” said Lori DeMatteis, Chief Revenue Officer at MatrixSpace.

“MatrixSpace’s collaboration with Skyway will bring next-generation sensing technology to vertiport operations. Our solutions are designed to provide unparalleled situational awareness, ease, and flexibility, and together, we’re creating a foundation for the safe and scalable future of air mobility.”

By combining Skyway’s expertise in vertiport development with MatrixSpace’s advanced radar systems, the partnership addresses key challenges in air traffic management.

Enhanced radar capabilities will improve drone detection and mitigate potential threats from unmanned aircraft.

Real-time air traffic monitoring will reduce collision risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Additionally, improved coordination between vertiports and airborne assets will help optimise flight paths and schedules.
