India: Government “to Introduce Air Taxi Services for Delhi, Mumbai, Pune”
During a recent major National Aviation Conference held at the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium in Pashan, Pune entitled ‘Challenges in Aerospace for Viksit Bharat – 2047’, Civil Aviation Minister, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, said that trials will begin in early 2026 to bring air taxi services to Delhi, Mumbai and Pune, reports indianexpress.com. The two-day event was organised by the ‘Aeronautical Society of India’.
Naidu remarked that to ease traffic congestion in metro cities, it was imperative to bring such services to India and explained, “More than 35 percent of aircraft components are now manufactured in India including helicopter equipment. The government is working on increasing domestic production and expanding air transport.”
Naidu commented the Government was also working on regional air connectivity, stating, “Fifty new airports will be built in the next five years, and by 2047, the total number may exceed 200.” Adding, “Noida and Navi Mumbai airports are in the final stages of construction and flights will begin soon.”

He went on to say that India has around 30,000 drones already in operation, with plans to dramatically increase the number by 2047. He said the government would reduce import duties on drone equipment to promote domestic production.
The Conference was attended by officials from DRDO, ISRO and other aerospace organisations.
