Diamond Aircraft integrates Volocopter into its business portfolio

Wiener Neustadt, Austria-based Diamond Aircraft (Diamond), a leading general aviation aircraft manufacturer, has integrated a German electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturer, Volocopter, into its operations.

Despite the integration, Volocopter’s headquarters will remain in Bruchsal, Germany.

Diamond is a subsidiary of the Wanfeng Aircraft Division, which is a part of Chinese automotive supplier Wanfeng Auto Holding Group.

The company has built a reputation over four decades for delivering quality and innovation in aviation.

It mainly focuses on motorised gliders and small aircraft for the private market but also has ambitions in the electric aviation sector.

And, the integration of Volocopter marks a strategic move to expand its portfolio into electric urban air transportation, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions.

Strategic move

Furthermore, this organisational restructuring is set to benefit both companies.

Following the move, Volocopter will be able to reduce costs while retaining its skilled workforce.

The partnership is expected to support Volocopter’s mission to achieve certification milestones by 2025, while Diamond Aircraft will gain a foothold in the evolving market of electric urban air mobility.

Bin Chen, Chairman of Diamond Aircraft Group, emphasised the forward-thinking nature of the integration, stating, “The future of aviation is shaped by visionaries. Diamond’s broad portfolio is further strengthened by Volocopter, the VoloCity, and future models.

He added, “Together, we are creating the foundation to further develop sustainable air mobility and strengthen Europe as an innovation hub in aviation.”

Tobias Wahl, insolvency administrator and partner at Anchor Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, also expressed confidence in the partnership.

“Volocopter’s expertise and highly motivated team have consistently set benchmarks in the eVTOL industry. With Diamond Aircraft, we have found a strong strategic partner who will build on this foundation,” he said.

“My special thanks go to the employees for their spirit and commitment. I am grateful that the team can carry on with their impactful work in the European economy.”
